Both! - View distance on 100% and geometry on high are the two most important settings.
View distance for the view :P and if your geometry is set on high objects/vehicles/enemies will appear sooner than having it on med or low. |
There he goes. One of God's own prototypes.
A high-powered mutant of some kind never even considered for mass production. Too weird to live, and too rare to die. |

Well, since view distance determines if you can spot that sniper or not I would have to say that, it affects gameplay more. While I play on high settings to not exploit graphics, low settings give you an advantage when playing as grass and shadows and everything makes the enemy stand out.

So it's been slightly under two months, and more than 78% of the responses said they prefer view distance over settings. Now, given, half of them have brand new 8800s, so they don't really count, but can we expect any kind of increase in view distances?

Well, from the tests I've made, if you have at least 7600GT (like me) you should not have any problems with your GFX (unless you want 1280x1024+8xAA+16xAF or something stupid like that).
I'm no expert, but from what I understand, when you increase view distance, you also increase the number of draw calls per frame. And that causes a big impact on CPU load. |
