I use this headset. Have had it for about a year now and it works great. The microphone is very clear. And it has great sound.

I use the Sennheiser PC 161's and they are awesome, however it looks like you have a higher budget, so sticking with Sennheiser check out the PC 350's, the reviews are great for it.

EDIT: These are only stereo BTW and use a single 3.5mm jack for audio, and another one for the Mic, if you need 5.1 then the Plantronics 777's look good.

I used 5.1 headphones for a year now (medusa progamer or something) and i would suggest not to buy 5.1 set. Atleast in bf2 you have no real difference, good stereo phones will do.
Which are easier to plug into homestereo systems anyway.

When you buy ones make sure you test them on before using it. I myself have a large head and some smaller headsets are just too tight.

I use the PC 350's - you will be completely deaf to the outside world, and it takes some getting used to only hearing your voice in your head. Its certainly authentic for vehicle crewmen though and the mic is second to none. They need some tweaking to sound incredible if it matters to you in your x-fi settings, but they are good and a bit cheaper thesedays.

I'm still using an Plantronics audio 80 (folds for travel) I picked up after my Plantronics 300DSP headset died (4+yr old).
I picked them up for a backup set in till I decided on what to get(5.1 etc.) I paid 6 or 7 bucks for them here:
Plantronics clearance store

GREAT SOUND
pain free gaming for hours and hours even on the largest head
Cristal clear voip

Note the audio 80 use a pad not a cup
I find the pads that rest on your temple much more comfortable than a cup that covers your ear
(yes I have a big head)
I like it so much I still haven't bought a new head set!
Did I mention it was under 8 bucks?
