I don't understand the AAVP7A1. As I recall, "No." was said to maps where you assault a beach. Op. Barracuda is a wormhole to this as far as I know because you are not attack a beach, you are attacking a North and South rock bunker and then from there its all on the ground, no water. If I read correctly, you said the vehicle was great for assaulting beaches. Are we getting a beach map where we will attack a beach, where we have to assault a beach thats occupied by an enemy?

I doubt the devs are against beach assault maps.

I don't think it matters whether the beaches themselves are the set objectives, they can still be assaulted. On Barracuda the rock forts are flanked by them. Don't forget Jabal either.

There's some maps in development with beaches you can assault, like Jabal2, Op.Tempest and Eyl. Whether they're occupied is mostly up to players.

Besides the AAV isn't just exclusively used for amphibious operations, they were in the real battle of Fallujah for instance. IIRC they're more common in the USMC than the LAV.

Awesome update! The camo pattern on the AAV isn't too pretty, but none the less,it's all still awesome! But yea hope to see the AAV on some good maps. (Fallujah,Jabal,Barracuda maybe, and maybe even Muttrah instead of the LAV's.)

I have doubts about the usefulness of the AAV7 in PR; the beasts aren't meant for combat and, thus, would seem to be almost out of the scale of PR. They aren't "Armored Fighting Vehicles" like the Bradley, nor are they technically "Armored Personnel Carriers" like the LAV. They are massive troop transports that are meant to bring up to 40 Marines to the battle, not necessarily engage in direct combat in it. Being the size of a barn, and rather thin-skinned for an "armored" vehicle (those aren't ERA tiles, its applique armor), their survivability in PR is questionable to me.

At best, the AAV will serve as a weapons platform that will support infantry from beyond the effective range of the enemies weapons (which works better on insurgency maps). If portrayed realistically, the AAV7 won't fair very well against RPGs.

And I know, I know, "But they were used in the battle for Fallujah". They were used mostly for route clearance and transport, and on occasion, they were used as troop and ammo ferries in the city during the battle out of necessity as far as I understand. Vets, feel free to stop my vicious spreading of a-historical statements, if that's what they are.

In any case, can't wait to try em' out!

Simply replacing the LAV in amphibious assaults is enough reason to have them in PR.

I doubt that. It wouldn't make sense that they are armed and armored. If they were just for simply ferrying troops and supplies behind the lines they'd be replaced by more appropriate logistical assets like trucks and boats.

Both the Bradley and LAV are actually 'Infantry Fighting Vehicles'. The AAV is an 'Armored Personnel Carrier'.

That's kind of the point of APCs, they're not MBTs (which are vulnerable against HATs and TOWs anyway). The majority of vehicles in PR are light armored or not armored all.

At the moment an unarmored Humvee can survive an RPG hit in PR.

Uh, okay. You missed my point, really, which is that the AAV's role irl is completely different than that of LAVs, and that will translate into PR. LAV is a recon vehicle meant to penetrate beyond the front lines, AAV is a hulking troop transport meant to land Marines on beaches and perform missions like, "manning check points, Military Operations in Urban Terrain (MOUT) missions, escorting food convoys or mechanized patrol." (Not exactly sure what role this source insists AAVs have in MOUT)

Assault Amphibian Vehicle Personnel Model 7A1 (AAVP7A1)

Granted, it's not true that the AAV doesn't belong in PR, it's just that players might have a hard time finding a role within the game that the AAV will comfortably fill (this is dependent on the map, of course). The two vehicles are far from interchangeable and I'm skeptical about how PR players are going to react to the fact, so friggin' sue me.

I'm aware that AAVs and LAVs have different roles IRL.

The AAVs weakness against enemy armor should be obvious from the lack of a cannon, we'll have to wait and see how much punishment it can take.

Hi Guys. I wanted to ask something:

Will there be adjusable sniper scopes with accurate mil-dots in v0.92?
How many M4/M16 versions will there be?
And will all versions of the M4/M16 (not with m203) have the Knight's Armment Foregrip?

I think this is the best PR update ever. Can't wait until it's released!!
