Default Spg-9 rocket does way too much damage.

Realistically, Spg-9's in-game would have PG-9V, at best PG-9VM munitions, latter one having equivalent explosive charge and penetration to RPG-7's PG-7VS shot (RU alt lat).

That rpg7's PG-7VS round in-game does 400 damage, cannot one-shot APC's, cannot instakill big choppers.

But if we look at the Spg-9 damage, its projectile does whopping 650 damage, making it (effectively in terms of targets it can one-shot and two-shot) on-par with unguided HAT kits in the game.

And its just not right. Spg should not completely one-shot destroy modern APC's, and should not kill everything flying (largest choppers) in one hit.

Yes, nerfing SPG-9 damage to 400, basically a weaker LAT, would be realistic, but way too weak for gameplay reasons.

However, damage value around 490-500 damage per PG-9 shot would still make it usable, while reducing some of the cheese like spg-9 destroying tanks in 2 shots, instantly blowing every modern apc/large chopper in sight, etc.

Yes, such change will leave some insurgent factions (most notably, regular iraqi insurgents) lacking in AT capabilities.
Insurgents could get +1 rocket count for pickup lat kit, and an extra SPG-9 techie on every map.

Alternatively, an extra pick-up kit with RPG-29, which is, i guess, modelled, but not yet implemented.

Yeah we know, but haven't done anything for balance reasons. We might look at it again in the future when a few more weapons make their way to insurgents.

I agree with this. It doesn't need to be nerfed into the ground completely, but it shouldn't one shot almost every APC like it currently does.

As for tanks (excluding the T62), I don't think it's too broken. Against the T72B for example, with it's excellent ERA coverage, you really need to get good angles on the tank to do any sort of proper damage.

I don't understand why it shouln't kill choppers in one hit. Shouldn't all rockets kill helicopters in one hit? Are there any known instances of helicopters suriving an RPG hit?

I thought the only reason this wasn't the case in PR was because it's much easier to hit a helicopter in PR than IRL (no backblast, once you're stable you pretty much stay accurate if you turn around)

As for balancing: keep in mind that any change done to the SPG technical affects the SPG static as well. If an SPG has the same damage as an RPG, I might as well just take the RPG every single time rather than bother digging an SPG. Any second taken digging an SPG is a second I could have spent getting into a better position with my RPG.

Lets not ruin one of the few vehicles that have a very nice skill curve and skill ceiling.
Lets not ruin balance on all maps featuring the very nice spg technical.
Lets not make playing with assets even easier.

We already treat the SPG-9 same as RPG when it comes to slat armor. It has the same chance of blocking the SPG as RPG round. This includes the BMP-1 round.

I mean, if we look at that realistically, SPG-9 rocket is only a shaped charge, and quite weak at that, outside of hitting critical components or the pilot, chopper might survive.

My suggestion was 490-500 damage (instead of 650 currently) - it would still immediately blow up any smaller chopper, and get any big chopper or cas on fire. So its still somewhat viable as AA, just kills some cheese like instantly blowing APC's, even some IFV's.

And yes, after that some insurgent factions would need better infantry AT kits.
