All American full auto M16 models suffer from "barrel warp", as do M4's. The barrel glows even after just one or two mags in full auto. The C7 and C8 have a much better barrel and can stand these heats much more and so are more reliable because of it.

Diemco wanted to do one with an even heavier barrel but could not get permission from Colt.
