As a sniper player i can give you something about that.

If i don't understand wrong, you probably want to set some defensive perimeters before you got shot right? Because there is only two thing that you may do against snipers. First: "Observe, observe, observe".. You may observe yourself as you may give spotter or ur own squad leader kit with gtld to someone who knows how to do this sh*t everytime. Second thing -said by many guys before me- is "Smoke" You should smoke your assets continuously but this is only for delaying time while your scout is scanning the area all the time. Because there is probably more patient guy against your asset who is only waiting a milisecond to locate where actually is that your asset then "BAM".

First strike is really important because there can be cas/armor/infantry rush after that depents on which asset died first. But if there is only one sniper team who wants to get kills you should leave assets for not getting "dead dead" situation and try to locate him. (For this time your medic should keep his head inside a shithole) After locating him just call for supressing assets like armor/cas/mortar or maybe a squad near his position. After threat is gone revive ur guys and "BAM" his 4 - 5 kills flied away...

Smoke the hell out of everything, it really depends where the sniper is, how skilled he is, and if he has a spotter etc etc
If you know where he is you can suppress him. It's important to communicate with others around you.
But usually people with sinpers are some new players and usually they go solo and usually they have no idea what they're doing

You can most likely tell which direction a sniper is engaging you from.

First thing you must consider is whether you have other contacts.

If yes, then discern whether the sniper is engaging you from a different direction from your other contact.

If the sniper is firing at you from another location, smoke in the direction of the sniper AND the other enemies (if necessary) and retreat (yes, you can be mobile as a defensive unit...). Remember, you don't want to be in terrain in which you are being shot at from two directions.

If however, you are being engaged inside a building, then it's more than easy to hide from the sniper and deal with the other infantry who have less accurate rifles.

If the sniper is engaging you from the direction of your other contacts then it's time for you to hide, and call in CAS or APCs if inside a building, or move to another location if in the open.

If you don't have other contacts, then hide from the guy. You don't need to see him, so he can't see and shoot you. This way you don't waste smoke/tickets/time by getting killed one by one. Remember, you don't need to know his exact location, just the vague direction he is engaging you from.

Should you need to revive a downed squad member then smoke his body. Yes, I know most people say don't smoke your position, but for a sniper (as your only contact) it's best to smoke his location as you might not know exactly from which where they are engaging you.

Last thing you should do, in either scenario, is report it to your team. Most likely CAS or APCs will mop up your pesky pea shooter.

Don't waste time on a fool with a single rifle, if you react in the ways above he won't do much or any damage to you...

As a squad leader there is little more infuriating than having your squad picked off one by one because they feel the need to see their enemy (this goes for other threats too).

Last of all, just a reminder, don't bother looking at them, trying to spot them more accurately or attempting to suppress them. You will only waste your time, energy, team's tickets and your squad's resources.

In summary, the following variables must be considered:

- Location of your troops - inside or outside of buildings
- Other contacts
- Direction of other contacts compared to the sniper
