I would IMAGINE they train with the older weapon yet carry the new one in the field because the training weapon is to be used only for that, training, and probably stays at the base. Pretty much every military does it this way; they keep the older weapons in the service just so they can use them for training and such. At USMC recruit training I was trained to fire an M16A2, yet the rifles we use now are all M16A4s. Same operating system, so pretty much same training applies to both weapons.
