Well, it is safer to back everything up...I mean, it worked fine for me, but you never know what could go wrong.

Off topic: What are you going to do when your drive fails?

If your data's important to you - and let's face it music, pictures etc etc are - then you should really think about a way of backing them up. Another drive, external storage, or DVD. It's worth looking at.

It's not as if as an external HD costs -that- much nowadays.

True true. I suppose it would be a good investment.

You can also save a lot of room on your internal HD if you simply leave stuff like pictures/music/etc. on the external HD, though that might be risky.

OT: This is awesome. I boot up windows 7, it's done in under a minute, and as soon as it's loaded I can start doing stuff! No more waiting for minutes until everything starts loading

No,don't get the beta - get the (win7)RC (build 7100)

An external hard drive is nothing more then an internal hard drive - in a box that
limits it to the USB2 speed (~1/3 of the drive's maximum speed)

Get an internal hard drive and install win7 on that, you can disconnect your current drive before the install process if you're worried something will get deleted.
You'll have 2 hard drives and 2 OS's,can back staff up from 1 drive to another.

Windows has never "liked" multiple partitions, for example you have a 500gb
drive and you make 2 partitions on it ("drive c:" and "drive d:") now if you want to copy a 1gb file (for example) from one folder on "drive c:" to another folder
on the same "drive c:" it would take ~5 seconds. Now try coping the same file, but
onto "drive d:" and now we're looking at 5 minutes.

Quick one: anyone using any of Adobe's CS4 gear on win 7 yet?

When I got the first beta, CS4 wasnt supported at all, has this been rectified?

Hmm. I ended up doing a clean install and all my data was just fine. I absolutely love the new taskbar. It solved all my problems. And finally the download folder could be displayed in the Start Menu! Everything seemed to run quite smoother as well and UAC was tolerable on the low setting, hehe.

However I did have somewhat frequent crashes and my ethernet controller turned off and on by itself and half the time I couldn't get it to work. Most games that I could run, ran less smoothly, even with Windows 7 ATI drivers. I'm sure these problems are just on my side but just a heads up for others.

Although I was reluctant, I went back to Vista.
