Unstoppable: A beginners Guide to Tanking.
Hey,
I've started tanking recently (just got used to all the basic tactics etc.) so I thought I'd make a post for anyone who wants to get into Driving or Gunning in a tank Driving: Try to remember than mere terrain cannot stop you in most cases, and that holding shift makes it easier to climb/you move faster. In most tanks (except for the T72/T90 I think) if you left click you get a range finder, this is surprisingly helpful for calling out contacts. When faced with a contact, there are a few things you can do to help defeat it. First off get "Front on" This means face you target. Your front armour is alot better than your armour at the side, top, or rear. Stop when your Gunner tells you to - he cannot fire while you are moving. If you're in a group of more than one Tank, your smoke can be effective for covering your advance, or retreat if you think you are going to lose. If you don't feel confident that you will destroy your opponent easily, try to withdraw. Try to pick good positions, ontop of a hill is not a good position! Try to pick your ground so that you can cover an area and let your enemy move into your killing zone. When stationary press F3 to go Silent and listen out for enemy tanks - you will hear them before you see them. Gunner: Don't get annoyed at your Driver! Stay calm! Don't be afraid to tell your driver where to go - they'll usually obey so that you can get a good shot. If you want to fire on the Move you're going to have to practise alot, it's very hard due to the lack of stabilisers unless you're on a road. If you can however, tell your driver. Keep your Armour Piercing rounds loaded - if you spot infantry you have your MG and usually enough time to switch to HEAT if needed. Try to hit an enemy tank on the turret, or inbetween the turret and the hull. Turn your sensitivity up so you can swing the turret round quicker, but not too high so that you can't get a steady shot! If you have joystick - use it! If anyone else has tips for new players feel free to share them, imho I made this because I remember wishing there was one when I first decided to go tanking on PR! |

On air asset maps, worth thinking about a squad with a truck for repair station and/or AAV, but rarely seen ingame.

I have a faint memory of reading that all tanks are mirrored for balance purposes.
