Try deleting the Project Reality profiles folder under my documents. Then make sure you run the launcher as admin and have full permissions.

Unfortunately didn't work. The game was already set to 'run as administrator'. Is there a chance a reinstall could fix it?

Reinstall isn't going to fix it

Wow...

I just came here to post this exact same message.... just found the game and installed it only to get the same error screen.

One thing I have noticed -- it says that there's an update available, but it times out saying it can't reach the server... do you get the same thing?

Thanks.

So, the updates finally managed to get all the way through, and this fixed this issue.

I wanted to post this here so that if anybody ever comes looking for this issue, they will know they just have to be patient and let the updates run. I did get some time-out errors while downloading the updates, but eventually, it finished and all works well.
