DirectX crash/black screen after PSU swap
I've replaced my Chieftec APS-650CB with Antec TP-750C and since then when running games (ArmA3, ArmA2, Insurgency) after a few minutes into the game either an error window pops up with "D3D Error - DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED" or the screen goes black and I can't do anything else but shut down the PC.
GPU is GTX 770, CPU i5 3570K System log gives me this: Display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered. So basically it should be just the drivers, but I've been uninstalling and reinstalling the entire day and it still doesn't work. |

Re: DirectX crash/black screen after PSU swap
Seems silly to ask an old hand like you but are you completely removing the drivers using cc cleaner or similar, what about trying an older or different driver?
Odd how changing a PSU affects it, have you tried using your old PSU as a test or was it dead? |

Re: DirectX crash/black screen after PSU swap
Try installing back your old PSU and see what happens. I remember this used to happen to me in the early days of running Win7, and I dont remember how I fixed it.
0 - reseat all the connectors ( PSU, HDD/SSD, remove ram sticks, clean with soft cloth ) 1 - try your old PSU an dif that wont work 2 - benchmark your GPU - stress test it 3 - do a memory test - from DOS ( hirens boot CD if possible ) 3 - update all the hardware drivers - everything you can find 4 - do a windows update and make sure it doesn't fail on anything 5 - install DX9C, IN stall DX10, install all the MS VC++ redistributable from 2005 to 2013, both x86 and x64 if your system is 64bit 6 - run a WEI and wait for it to complete 7 - perform a cleanup of the system, and do a defragmentaion of all drives 8 - dont run any background apps while gaming Sorry for the long list but at this point you need to test everything and do things non related to just driver to see where the problem might be. Forgot to ask which Mainboard do you have? Does it have intel chipset? |

My previous PSU works but shuts down the computer at random (voltage or sth). Used DDU, tried several older versions of nV drivers. | |

Re: DirectX crash/black screen after PSU swap
Download DirectX End-User Runtime Web Installer from Official Microsoft Download Center
Endless DXGI_ERROR_DEVICE_REMOVED Crashes Use MSI afterburner or alike and monitor your temperatures. If old PSU was failing you might have more faulty components than just PSU. |

Re: DirectX crash/black screen after PSU swap
My old PSU was 1 year old as the rest of my PC (except my HDD).
Anyway, I think reseating the GPU fixed it, ran ArmA3 well past the point I got the DirectX crash (about 2 mins in) and no black screen on Insurgency. |

Re: DirectX crash/black screen after PSU swap
Oh...dont you hate those trivial things? Bust your arse to figure out what the hell is the problem, and then a simple reinsertion of graphic card does the trick, and all works fine.
Down to base, possible slight movement of GPU - lost contact on a pin - while you were replacing PSU. Happy gaming. |
