8GB to 16 Any point?
My supplier is having a 15% off so another 8 GB DDR 3 is pretty cheap, exactly the same as my existing RAM is still available. I see someone has brought out a 170/skylake mobo with DDR3 so it may be used again in a future build.
The question is for gaming is it pointless for the next few years? |

Well it might be useful at some point so I'd say go for it since it's cheap.

do it, for the double bandwidth, unless you're running 2x4GB ;o
if you are 2x4GB then i'd just leave it... seems video memory is more important with future games anyway ! by the time you need more than 8GB of ram, DDR5 will be standard, DDR4 will be on the way out ;P |

I upgraded when PR map lightmapping took 8gb and i still wanted to play gta5. Other then extreme heavy workload+multitasking 8gb+ is useless.
Cheao futureproofing however isnt bad |

Re: 8GB to 16 Any point?
For Openworld Games it gives you quite a boost. Especially when travelling fast and the world needs to be rendered quickly, you will notice more FPS. When I played Witcher or GTA 5 with 8 GB, 6GB were used for it. After I upgraded to 16, 7-8 GB were used. People like to use the argument that not even the newest games use that amount of RAM, but Windows always allocates memory based on the available amount.

Sky emperor:
It'll cost me 50 euro plus 30% import tax...... Interesting point by scubbo: Bandwidth I'd be going from 2X4 to 4X4 so surely the bandwidth would be doubled? I only play PR, ETS2 and may go back to squad one day but maybe play more/other games later. I like to leave lots of windows open though I've noticed that uses lots of RAM. But from what Spook says everyone’s wrong by looking at their resource monitor - but hey the whole internet was wrong about my PSU |

Re: 8GB to 16 Any point?
Get that extra RAM as back up, and what I'd do is this:
Get a third party program that overclocks your USB mouse from 125 Hz to 500 or 1000 Hz You can fiddle around with the mouse further by getting programs that disable mouse acceleration from within the operating system, etc. if you want Overclocking the mouse, overclocking the USB ports, will do wonders for in-game aiming and performance but will burn out your RAM and RAM slots (eight times as fast as would be normal), but that is what your extra RAM is for |
