Default Printer problem

When I connect my printer to this PC it comes up with the balloon saying new hardware connected 'USB Hub'. When I try to install the printer it says it isn't connected, I've reconnected all connection and power cables many times over but nothing is working.

I tested the printer on the PC down the stairs and it recognised it straight away, with the balloon saying 'Lexmark X1100 found'.

All the USB ports on this PC work for every other USB bit of hardware though.

must be an old printer.
Seems like they don't have a driver for XP.
but most likely you don't have the adequate driver on your upstairs computer...

It's just the X1100 series, it's the X1190 model.

It's not the driver, what I'm saying is while putting in the CD (with the driver on it) it does not detect the printer, the USB cable is brand new.

I can't get a chance to install the drivers as it has to detect the printer first.

I've had to install a printer driver so the computer could detect the printer before.

Mmm well it won't let me. I think it could be a registry issue but I dunno how to go about solving it.

Run an uninstall, then a registry defrag and try again.

I had it before but it was a cheap usb extension I was using

I did uninstall the software, have cleaned the registry with numerous programs. See I thought it was the USB cable so I ordered a new one, it's nothing to do with the cable though.
