Helicopter convenient flares button
By default flares button on helicopters is X, which i found inconvenient. Mostly because if you wanna press it, you need to distract finger from wasd buttons. The more convenient resort would be bind what function on button where fingers are naturally resting. And most suitable button for flares i found Left Shift. However left shift is already assigned to pointless function called "helicopter sprint". Furthermore, you cannot simply unbind what function (trough game interface) and use shift key for another thinks.
So whats why i'm writing here, for all who thirsty to use more convenient flares control, i found a way to set it, and gonna write instruction bellow... Instruction: You need to manualy unbind what useless function from helicopter control file in order to free shift button. 1. Locate your Controls.con file which is in .../Documents/Battlefield 2/Profiles/00?/ (if you have multiple profiles, the first account will be 001, the second 002, its up to you to recognize on which account you need to make changes) 2. Open Controls.con with notepad (or similar text edit program) 3. Find a line (picture) which is bold in yellow collor. 4. Change a text which is bold in blue collor (picture) to right control or some else button which u dont use it anyway. 5. Save Controls.con 6. Open game, go to options - controls - helicopter and finally bind flares to shift button. 7. Enjoy such cool flares-shift button |

Re: Helicopter convenient flares button
My mouse has 3 side thumb buttons but the middle one isn't recognized by any programs so I just set a macro to read the button press as if I were pressing X. This way I have my flares right there by my thumb and I can use it to zoom on ground vehicles too!

Re: Helicopter convenient flares button
'space' bind for flares seems good to me, free key, usable by thumb, have no cross-presses.

Anyways, a joystick only helps for very advanced maneuvers where throttle precision is key. | |
