slow windows, cant install ati drivers

Hey all,

Since yesterday my computer is weird. Its was scanning for some kind of index errors before windows even started.
Now that doesnt happen anymore. But its sometimes really slow and yesterday it was extremly slow. (typing text. for example or opening firefox).
It has gotten better since I deleted some games/files and defragmented my harddrive. I also scanned my system with avira free it didnt find any virus.
I also deleted my old ati driver and downloaded the latest but I get this error message when trying to install: CATALYST install manager has stopped working

Do you know how to fix my problems? Please let me know.

It is possible that your PC is running slow due to a virus, try scanning your computer for any infections.
Also are you sure you installing correct drivers, by that i mean 32 or 64bit version. And have you tried re-downloading and reinstaling the drivers? It could be that file got corrupted or something, altough it should have stopped working at installation.

Hello there. Well first of all.. thanks for the Dxdiag file. it was helpful but only to a certain extent. Your computer seems to be running as it should but i did notice some issues. for instance
Your resolution was 1400x1050 at 1Hz and from what it sounds like.... im gunna go on a limb and say it is either a registry hiccup or a virus. The indexing service "catalogs" sections of your hdd so that they may be accessed faster, more efficently. These areas are generally areas you regularly visit/use. So here are your instructions from a genuine IT technician.

Tips for your Slowness/Virus issues
1. Start up in safe mode. If you cant... these is a confirmation of virus/Os corruption.
2nd. if you can start up in safe mode, login and go to C:\ProgramData. (it is generally a hidden folder so you may have to hit alt, then click tools, go to folder options, then click view on the window that pops up and select Show hidden files and folders.)
3. When in program data, peruse the folders in their. if there is a folder that looks like 14192374835465345(or just numbers) then delete that folder. DO NOT delete folders that look like this [A17f-ff74-ff] ect.
4. restart windows and login, then take a look at your taskmanager and see if there is anything that shouldn't belong. Also, you should download a program called CCleaner. Its great for clearing out the registry and .temp files your computer isn't using. Also, if you do have a virus, CCleaner usually detects its registry position and saves you a lot of valuable time digging through the registry. The majority of the time, the registry value wil also usually be just numbers. you have plenty of ram and are barely using page file so its not as hardware issue.

5. You dont have to do this but you can to try and ensure Windows just didnt boink itself but if you can start up command promt cmd and type in sfc / scannow
it'll scan vital system files to see if they are damaged. (again i doubt it)
For your ATI issues

Make sure you are using the right drivers. From what your describing, i'd uninstall it ALL. Ati catalyst manager the drivers all of it. Uninstall it. Then reinstall it and run it as Administrator. If that doesn't work, reply back and i'll see if i can assist you further.
