Default high ping kick

i am running PR on a small LAN (only 2 computers) one of the computers is serving the game out, the other computer joins the game, and we both go head to head. one computer plays the game fine, but the other one constantly gets kicked from the server, and has to keep rejoining. (about every 40 seconds) even if i change which compuer is the server, the same computer keeps being kicked! what the hell is causing this and how can i stop it. Why does it not happen to the other computer which is actually a lot older than the one that keeps loosing connection. I noticed that the ping is always very high during the game, is there some sort of auto high ping kick feature, if so can i disable it?

Default my systems

the computer that never gets kicked is as follows:-
AMD 3200 (2Ghz) 1 GB DDR 333 mhz,
NVIDIA FX 5200 AGP graphics card,
ABIT mother board with onboard sound and lan 10/100.

Like i said it is old now but stil plays PR fine on low settings, and never gets kicked. The other PC that always gets kicked is a brand new custom made as follows :-

Asus M2N-SLI deluxe motherboard - on board sound and LAN 100/1000
AMD dual core 6000 (3Ghz per core)
2GB Kingston DDR 2 667Mhz Ram
BFG 8800 GTS 320MB graphics card

plays PR like a dream but gets kicked all the time, even when it is serving out the game and playing it at the same time, it still gets kicked from itself......work that out!!!
what you have to remember is that there is no other computers involved, no internet game or remote server, just these 2 computers on a LAN. I am on one, my brother is on the other, we both go head to head against each other. One of the computers serves the multiplayer game and we both join it. it dosent matter which of the 2 machines serves the game, my newer machine keeps getting kicked back to multiplayer menu after about 1 minute or so. DAMN FRUSTRATING!! any help please.....

Default networking help

What is your network? PC to PC with just ethernet cable you need a crossover cable and you could let the faster PC do DHCP (auto assign ip address to network)by setting up that PC to "host" or "share" its internet connection. Or manually assign each PC a different ip address . for example : 192.168.0.10 and 192.168.0.20
Networking PCs through a hub or router is easier as you can use regular cables and set the hub to be the DHCP host.

I going to guess you have a cable modem or DSL with out extra ethernet ports and you just unplugged your cable from the modem and plugged it in to your other PC for a quick network so you just need a "crossover cable".
If you don't have a hub you should get one. They are cheep and you can setup larger lan parties with ease.
Hope this helped.

P.S. Computer geeks has a cable/DSL router for a little over $12 bucks
