The 2900 is roughly equivalent to an nVidia 8600. Personally I'm waiting for the 2950 to come out before I get rid of my 8800GTX (which is for sale...anybody?...damn)

Nvidia appears to be doing better than Ati atm, so I'd go for an 8800 (8600 is said to be rather sucky), or wait for a 8900. I have an 8800GTS 640MB, which is doing just fine. I feed it some World in Conflict every morning for breakfast.

I have an Evga 8800gts 640mb from Launch and i love it! The HD 2900 pro is not worth getting it's beat out by cards far below it's price range(aka 8600gts, 7900gt, etc) Maybe wait 2 weeks for the 8800gt and 8800gs? They will replace the 8600's to an extent and will be better performing.
