Default PR crashing after installing PRSP

It's definitely not a hardware issue or overheating, PB is completely up to date too. I was playing yesterday (first time I've played PR) and someone suggested getting PRSP to get used to the game a bit.

I installed PRSP and it works fine, copied the levels etc. and I didn't alter the PR folder/files at all (only PRSP).

I noticed in the installation guide....

"This can frustrate users because this leads to Crashes to the Desktop (known as CTDs)."

And that's exactly what I'm getting. I've noticed a few other people are loading a server, and just as it says 'join game' they get a CTD too. But nobody mentioned installing PRSP and so far all the advice has been about overheating, pc specs and updating PB and I've checked it all, nothing is wrong there.

So if it's known that installing PRSP causes CTDs, is there any known way to fix it? Or should I uninstall PRSP to play PR? I'd much rather play online than offline so if I have to, I'll uninstall PRSP. But I was wondering if anyone has worked out why PR crashes with PRSP installed, and how to fix it.

Thanks in advance.

Unless PRSP did something to the original PR (.\mods\pr) there is no way this can be caused by it.

Try to clean the shaders (delete all in Documents\Battlefield 2\mods\bf2\).

Are you using the original PR shortcut or the new one created by the PRSP install?

I use the original shortcut to play online and the SP for SP but either way I can't join servers.

I'll try deleting the shaders now.

Ok I deleted the shaders and I actually got into a server this time... but now Punkbuster 'handshaking' failed. I'll try updating PB again.

Ok I got into a game just as it was about to end. The next map loaded and the same thing happened, I got CTD with no error report/warning or anything. I'll try again later. Let me know if you think of anything else though cause I'm hopeless with this.

Thanks again.

There are sometimes occasional crashes with map changes on SP so it could be just that. It's annoying but a bug yet to be tracked down.

run pbsetup

download pbsvc to install pbsetup

After you install pbsetup run it to update your pb files
After your update finishes look under "Client Version"
you should see (v2.086 A1392)
