PR FPS Issues
Hi
I've been playing PR for awhile, and have always had lag issues, but not on all maps. Specs: ASUS Radeon 4850 Opteron 170 (2.5ghz dualcore, about the same as a dual core +4800 i think, s939) 2gb of DDR400 RAM (pretty bad) DFI Infinity SLI nf4 I've played the game while monitoring my CPU and GPU usage, and noticed that my GPU usage does not go above 70%, and generally only goes to 70% when i'm getting about 80fps. It is when my fps goes to 20 that the GPU usage is at 25%, this leads me to think that my CPU is bottlenecking my game (the CPU can only do so much, so my graphics card basically has nothing to do since it's stuck at 20fps, hence 25% GPU usage). Now my question is, what graphical settings affect CPU the most (although my lag could be due to RAM)? I've lowerd dynamic shadows and lighting to medium, but still terrible FPS at times. Current settings are: 1680x1050 Everything on HIGH, except dynamic shadows and lighting on medium, AA on x8, 100% view distance And, is there a PR system specs list anywhere? I'd be really surprised if there wasn't... considering it's a mod which drastically affects FPS |

Check out
Battlefield 2 Tweak Guide It's a great resource with screen shots of the game with each setting, so you can see what happens. Be sure to read the system guide as well. It can help you get the most out of what you have. |

What about a required and recommended system specs list for PR, does it exist?

Re: PR FPS Issues
Yes the 'Guide' tab has that info, but is down right now with update work.
Use this link in the meantime: Project Reality Installation Guide Good luck |

Re: PR FPS Issues
use the `game.lockfps 0
and can also try setting the affinity to 1 core for bf2.exe I've noticed that low utilization with the 4850/38xx and some maps are really painful.First time I see someone else with a DFI motherboard here other then myself Also try to OC that opteron, depending on the batch it could do 3ghz+ with stock volts. Some settings that might help: |

Re: PR FPS Issues
Hey Socketman, nice too see some detailed info there.
My cpu is stock 2.0ghz, and i have overclocked to 2.5 (stable). I can run it at 2.7ghz stable with BF2, but CSS gets constant hl2.exe errors, so i leave it at 2.5. I haven't overclocked my 4850, because my CPU is usually the bottleneck, so no point. How do i set the affinity to 1 core? I've ran speedfan/windows task manager while playing PR, and it seems to use around 50-70% of each core, which amounts to 50-70% cpu usage. I assume if i were to set it to 1 affinity it would use 50% max? Thanks for the reply |

Re: PR FPS Issues
I think it's a task manager "illusion" that it (BF2.exe) uses more then 50% since it's single threaded only.
I use this one: Process Explorer and right click, affinity for both processes: (enable shoe process tree under view at the top) It works for 8800gt's and for 4850's (in another PC),both running XP x64,but a couple of people have said that their FPS dropped after changing the affinity,so try it out and see what happens. Don't forget the fps unlock command from the console: `game.lockfps 0 I've seen it jump from 99/10 to over 200 fps (does not stay there, but doesn't go down under ~70 or so. 1600x1200 All high/AAx8 (but with 2 8800gt's in SLI-the 4850's are in crossfire and it's pretty much the same) |

Re: PR FPS Issues
I've downloaded process manager, and will try setting it to 1 core next time i PR. As my issue is low fps (20fps at times) unlocking my fps won't really benefit me at all, will just go above 90, which is already high enough so i won't notice.
Isn't the Opteron 165 a single core? |

Re: PR FPS Issues
Disabling the other core is just a placebo fix and won't do anything. I even tested it in fraps and it even loses fps by doing it.
The reason you are lagging so bad is because your settings are obviously too high. Turn off AA, lower your settings to medium/low and try it like that. I know how you feel I got a 9800gtx+ I can play any other game out there maxed out etc but bf2 has such a crap engine i have to run it on low/medium because of my CPU. |

Line 6 from the top.

Any (game) engine (good or bad) still needs a driver................ My placebo is playing tricks on me - it actually says 99/10 in the top left corner. Not to bad for a 4 year old motherboard and a 2 year old CPU.
