Lag
I made a thread about this earlier but i Dont really want to revive it. I get lag in PR.. usually only when im flying. I have Windows Vista 32 bit home premium. 2 gigs of RAM, an 8800 Nvidia Gefroce GTS 256 MB, and a intel duo core 2.76 processor. High = lag, Medium = lag, Low = Lag. simply put, changing the video settings doesn't help. ill tell you what ive tried to help you guys.
-lowering sound quality (hardly helped) -lowering video settings (hardly helped) -turned EAX off (helped a bit, but sound is very glitchy >>) -set BF2.exe to one affinity (helps quite abit, but do i have to set it to one affinity every time i start PR???) -put BF2.exe on high priority (helps quit a bit, but like affinity, i have to put it back to high priority every time i start PR? Can i make it so that i dont have to open task manager every time i start PR? Also, is this bad for my computer?) -changing my connection settings (nothing) -changing sound renderer from hardware to software (nothing) -cleaning out my graphics caches (nothing) -I dont really want to even turn off my firewall. I think that's every method i tried... plz help. Flying is my favortie thing to do in PR, and it really sucks when i lag, Also, the lag is less intense on local servers but it's still there. I hardly get any lag when on ground in any form. |

Re: Lag
You can use your shortcut to set AFFINITY like so:
"E:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\pr.exe" start /AFFINITY 2 +modPath mods/pr +menu 1 +widescreen 1 +szx 1680 +szy 1050 Run the game in the same resolution as your desktop. Set min and max virtual ram the same. Some bios let you adjust the PCIe bandwidth by selecting the size of the data block, so higher is better. With only 256 on the video card I would run mostly on med settings. Have you run battlefield cleaner, then reset video card setting, then played a round? Have you read the tweak guide for bf2? It's a good read lots of good stuff in it. Checkout his system guides at the top of the page as well. Do you have lag when you fly in a game you host yourself?(local lan)? Well it's late and that's all I can think of for now. Oh yea go to speed guide and test your speed Good luck PS jOHNNYdOUBE I think that only works on Operation Ghost Train with the Merlin, but I've been wrong before. |

Re: Lag
@palerider.. thanks for the help.. but im not a computer wiz. :P
You can use your shortcut to set AFFINITY like so: "E:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\pr.exe" start /AFFINITY 2 +modPath mods/pr +menu 1 +widescreen 1 +szx 1680 +szy 1050 what do i exactly do to that? Run the game in the same resolution as your desktop i play it on the resolution that the overall settings of high gives me. Set min and max virtual ram the same. Please tell me how to do this..? Some bios let you adjust the PCIe bandwidth by selecting the size of the data block, so higher is better I dont know how to do this. With only 256 on the video card I would run mostly on med settings. Have you run battlefield cleaner, then reset video card setting, then played a round? I turned the overall quality to medium, and I increased my view distance to one hundred percent, and i put my resolution high. I dont know how to reset my video card. Btw, the internet speed scan gave me this overview...memory optimization needs to be optimized. internet optimization... needs to be optimized junk file cleanup found over 700 files privacy protector found over 3000 files... what do i do with these results? thanks alot. |

Re: Lag
OK we'll start with :
use your shortcut to set AFFINITY To open your desktop shortcut, right click once on it. Choose properties from the bottom of the list. When that window opens, the "target" line will be highlighted. Click your mouse once inside "target" The highlight (blue background) stops, leaving the "curser" blinking inside the "target" Copy(Ctrl+c)and paste(Ctrl+v) the text: AFFINITY 2 into the "target"line after: "C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\pr.exe" start / So it should look like this: "C:\Program Files (x86)\EA GAMES\Battlefield 2\mods\pr\pr.exe" start /AFFINITY 2 +modPath mods/pr +menu 1 +fullscreen 1 Or just copy and paste the whole thing(everything in red) into the "target" line, if BF2/PR is on your "C" drive and your using fullscreen. Don't forget to click "apply" to save changes. Run the game in the same resolution as your desktop Right click on your desktop choose personalize Choose display settings On the lower left you will see what resolution your Running your monitor at. In the game setup under video options you should have it set up with the same resolution as your desktop Set min and max virtual ram the same Go to start/settings/control panel/system/advanced system settings/performance/settings click on advanced tab (top center) best performance= programs virtual memory/change uncheck automatically manage turn paging file off of any drive but the one drive you want to use. choose custom sizes the same value (1.5 the size of installed real ram) If you have a 2nd drive put the paging file on it. Preferably on it's own partition a little larger than the file itself. Example You have 2 gigs ram 2 x 1.5 = 3 Make min and max 3 gigs = 3073 Make a partition 3.5 gigs or 4 if you have a large drive. Call it "SCRATCH" and don't use it for any thing else but the paging file. Even better is getting a 4 gig USB flash drive that's Vista "ready boost" certified like: Patriot Extreme Performance 4GB Flash Drive (USB2.0 Portable) Model PEF4G200USB Speed: 200X (32MB/sec read speed, 26MB/sec write speed) This product has a lifetime warranty. Set up 1 gig for ready boost and the rest for virtual memory. This flash drive writes as fast as a hard drive, but when it comes time to find it/use it a regular hard drive's assess time is 8-12 milliseconds. For the flash it's like 1 millisecond. With only 256 on the video card I would run mostly on med settings. Have you run battlefield cleaner, then reset video card setting, then played a round? Download battlefield cleaner Install it and choose to run as admin through the desktop shortcut (right click/choose compatibility tab/ choose xp and run as admin) Run BF cleaner/choose "show files" under Graphics cache After a few seconds click "cleanse files" That's it. Some bios let you adjust the PCIe bandwidth by selecting the size of the data block, so higher is better. I was thinking AGP Aperture Size. This setting determines the allocation of physical RAM for use by an AGP graphics card, should it become necessary. You no doubt have PCIe so AGP Aperture Size isn't an issue for you, but Read PCI Express Overview To get familiar with it. Check you motherboards manual for any settings your bios might offer(PCIe Aperture Size?). Good luck hope you find it useful |

Re: Lag
thanks, but I don't understand your pagefile directions. I defragmented my hard drive but that didn't really help.. I mean.. it seems as if infantry gameplay is getting smoother but the flying lag is still there. anyways. can you please explain the pagefile process again? I'm having a hard time.. where you are telling me to go into my system... i have gotten to the virtual memory area, but i dont know what to do from there.. thanks alot.
Also, i copied the line in the shortcut for the AFFINITY thing, but when i clicked apply, it said the target location was not valid... Thanks alot again. You've been a great help. EDIT: It seems as if i lag in the Merlin the most... fine for a sec.. freeze for a sec.. fine for a sec, freeze for a sec.. is this normal? Im not sure >> EDIT #2: how do i reset my video card? |

Re: Lag
EDIT #2: how do i reset my video card?
Download battlefield cleaner Install it and choose to run as admin through the desktop shortcut (right click/choose compatibility tab/ choose xp and run as admin) Run BF cleaner/choose "show files" under Graphics cache After a few seconds click "cleanse files" You have flushed out you video card cache when you restart a game the card will refill with new files for the map. That's it. |
