Default Sniper Rifle Accuracy...

I'm just trying this mod, and I love it thus far (my clan is seriously thinking about playing this full time), but I've noticed the.... well the lack of any sort of accuracy for the sniper rifle... Basically.... an assault rifle can outsnipe a sniper due to its accuracy, and the sniper's lack. I understand of course that this is to counter the sniper's powerful rifle, but surely there are better alternatives!

1. Ranging shots. As we all know as a bullet travels farther, like all objects, gravity pulls it down. Either, make snipers manually set the range on their sniper rifle (rounded to 100 meters, 200 meters, etc etc). If you have ever played the Delta Force series by Novalogic (not known for realism) the sniper can see the distance to his target, and must adjust his scope range, otherwise shots fall below where he is aiming. in addition, if his scope is set to 200 meters, and the target is 100 meters away, bullets will hit above where he is aiming.
I dunno how do-able this is.

2. The alternative to the above would be making the bullet fall with distance, but rather than ranging his shots, the sniper has to use those nifty extra lines on the crosshair to guess where the bullet is going to hit.

I'd even settle for weakening the sniper rifle, but the accuracy... is horrible...

Welcome to PR Rebel. At first glance it seems like the sniper rifles are very inaccurate. I would ask that you spend several hours sniping then re-post. When you first start playing PR it is sometimes difficult to figure out the weopons. I spend several hours with a friend on TS figuring out where to aim to make shots hit. Now I can play CP abadan and hit guys from 400M+ without much difficulty. Also you will notice that if you search for "sniper" or "Sniper Rifle" using the search function here on the forums there are literaly dozens of discussions regarding this issue.

Thanks Again

Thank you, I have noticed it tends to hit low and to the left, but it still seems to lack accuracy. I'll go do some target practice :-p.

ahem... might I correct my post... the semi-auto sniper rifles appear to have poor accuracy... The M24, I have no problems with; but the SVD and the semi-auto US rifle seem to be all over the place even when prone from what I see. Is there a technique I'm missing?

I've gotten fairly good with them.

I think you just have to wait a few seconds and aim the very tip of the reticule at the head of the target. You need to remember though that the SVD has accuracy only of 2 MOA and so is not hugely accurate - the SPR on the other hand is in IRL subMOA accurate and so perhaps its reflection in game is not too good. Anyway that waivers off the point. Wait a while between shots - maybe 5 seconds and then you 'should' hit - but my advice is just practice - I did and now its second nature

You don't have to adjust your scope because of bullet drop, it's because of the angle of the scope in relation the barrel. It's trigonometry. The imaginary line created by the barrel must meet the imaginary line created by the scope where you want to hit your targets. The range where these two lines cross is the perfect place to shoot at because it means the bullet will go directly where the scope is, but as you get closer or further from that point then the lines get further apart and you will eventually have to adjust the angle of the scope to accomodate for the range. In BF2 it acts as though the scope is mounted inside the barrel so the lines are on top of each other and thus any range works.

The snipers are increadably inaccurate, i've been sniped by US medics more often than ive sniped people as the sniper class. Almost every other weapon in the game is more acurate than the sniper rilfes and its not a matter of practice its simple fact. I can understand why they have done that, you dont want everyone going sniper like the are with the support class right now but I really hope its fixed in 0.4.

I honestly didn't think it was that hard to figure out. I think the community as a whole needs to decide what they want. When .3 first came out you all were complaining the weopons are too accurate now people say they are not accurate enough. MAKE UP YOUR MINDS.

Dont forget about how ridiculous it is too have them holding the scope perfectly still, anyone who has used a rifle with a powerful scope knows how difficult it is to get an aimed shot at a small object when it wobbles around so much in a sidewards 8 shape, also moving the crosshairs around at things in your sight picture is difficult in real life even when leaning on something. my rifle does not have a tripod however so i wouldnt know about that sort of thing but my scope is 4-14x50.
its more difficult than pointing the middle of the sights and pulling the trigger, i think the "wait for 8 seconds while the m24 gets ready too shoot thing" kind of mimics the way you would be adjusting the scope for distance and focus and changing the elevation an windage for that range, although you dont need to zero the thing i think this is good enough.
